Featured Club: City SC South Bay

This month, we’re proud to spotlight City SC South Bay. We sat down with Josh Jirbandey, City SC South Bay Boys Director, to learn more about the club’s community, recent successes, and what the future holds as part of the City SC Affiliate Network.

Q: Tell us about your club and community. What makes your club unique, and what are you most proud of as an organization?

A: Our community and coaches are what make our club unique. We’ve built a welcoming, supportive environment where every player can learn, grow, and feel like they belong. We’re most proud of the strong relationships within our club and the positive culture our coaches and families create together, both on and off the field.

Q: What has been the biggest benefit of being part of the City SC Affiliate Network?

A: The biggest benefit of being part of the City SC Affiliate Network has been the opportunities it provides through City SC Connect, City SC Tours, and other affiliate programs. Being connected to a well-established club and brand has also created a strong sense of belonging and collaboration, allowing us to learn from one another while creating even more opportunities for our players, coaches, and families.

Q: Looking back over the past year, what accomplishments or milestones are you most proud of?

A: This past year, we celebrated a record number of senior graduates continuing their soccer careers at the collegiate level, highlighting the strength of our player development pathway.

In our first season in the Elite Academy League, our U11 and U13 boys teams won league titles. On the girls’ side, it was our first year competing in the Girls Academy Aspire League, where three teams won league championships and five of our six teams qualified for the playoffs.

These achievements reflect the strong foundation we’ve built and the clear pathway we provide for players to develop and succeed from the youngest ages through college.

Q: How has the City SC Network helped create opportunities for your players, coaches, and families?

A: The City SC Network has created valuable opportunities for our players, coaches, and families through programs like City SC Connect, City SC Tours, coaching education, and player development initiatives. These experiences have expanded opportunities for growth, strengthened connections across the network, and provided access to valuable resources and pathways that help our members reach their full potential.

Q: What initiatives, events, or experiences has your club hosted or participated in recently that have had a positive impact on your players and community?

A: One of our most impactful recent initiatives was our annual Coaches Game, which also serves as our club’s primary scholarship fundraiser. The event brought together more than 500 players, families, alumni, and community members for a day celebrating youth soccer and community spirit.

Together, we raised more than $30,000 to provide scholarships that help ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in our club.

Q: Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for the future of your club and your partnership within the City SC network?

A: We’re excited to continue growing opportunities for our players, coaches, and families while building on the strong foundation of our club. As part of the City SC Network, we look forward to collaborating with like-minded clubs, sharing best practices, and providing our players with enhanced development opportunities both on and off the field.

We believe this partnership will help us elevate the player experience, strengthen coach education, and expand pathways for players at every level, while continuing to make a positive impact in our local community.

Q: What are your goals and priorities for the upcoming season, and what excites you most about the future of your club?

A: Our primary goals for the upcoming season are to continue competing at the highest level while remaining committed to the long-term development of every player. We believe success is measured not only by results on the field, but also by the quality of our players’ experiences off the field.

For us, this is just the beginning. Together with City SC, we’re building something even bigger for our players, our families, and our community.
